Sample Locations
Where are samples taken?
Dust wipe samples are taken from floors, window sills, and window wells/troughs. One sample is taken per room when there is no window. In the District of Columbia and Virginia, two samples are taken per room when there is a window. In Maryland, two samples are taken per room if there is a window made of wood. For clearance inspections, three samples are taken per room when there is a window. Samples are taken from each area of the property including living rooms, family rooms, kitchens, hallways, bedrooms, bathrooms, offices, laundry rooms, furnace/utility rooms, walk-in closets, sunrooms, dens, enclosed patios, and attached garages. In DC, exterior surfaces can also be tested.
