After the Work Is Done

Renovation Complete

After the work is complete, verify the contractors cleaned up. Here are some ways to check.

Ask about your contractor's final cleanup process. Remember, lead dust is often invisible to the naked eye. It may still be present even if you cannot see it. The contractor must use disposable cleaning cloths. The cloths are used to wipe the floor and any windowsills of the work area. The cloths are compared to a cleaning verification card. The verification card determines if the work area was thoroughly cleaned.

You may also choose to have a lead dust inspection or clearance inspection. This type of inspection checks floors, windowsills, and window wells for lead dust. If the dust wipe samples passed, the house was cleaned properly.
